DIY Sweet (and spooky!) Planters

Two smiling plant pots with rope arms and legs sit on wooden steps. One wears gloves and sneakers; the other wears pink slippers. DIY summer flower pot planter, spooky ghost planter, front porch decor, fall outdoor decor, summer outdoor decor

Ya'll I am not a green thumb. Anything I plant quite literally has no chance of survival. In an effort to give my front porch some love, I grabbed a couple of plastic planters from Dollar Tree and some faux greenery. This craft is a smidge more difficult as it requires the use of a drill. As I was drawing the cute faces on one side, I realized I could make these versatile and drew spooky faces on the other. I'll rotate these during the fall and fill them with pumpkins or gourds. You could also use these to store outdoor pillows, or create them upside down and use them as drink tables! For the hands and feet, I used my toddler's gloves and shoes they've outgrown. I love how they turned out!

SUPPLIES

- Plastic planters

- Sharpies or markers

- Rope

- Drill with hole saw (I used 1" but use whatever size needed for the width of your rope)

STEPS

  1. Using a sharpie or marker, draw faces on the planters. I did sweet faces on one side and ghost faces on the other so I can use them for both summer and fall!

  2. Use the marker to make dots where you want to put holes for rope. I did one on each side as arms and then leg holes on both sides to align with the sweet and spooky faces (4 total).

  3. Carefully drill through the planter to make all 6 holes.

  4. Thread rope through the holes. If you have thick rope like mine, I found it easier to scotch tape the ends so they didn't frill as I was trying to get them through the holes.

  5. Fill with desired plants or decor.
